“Manufacturing jobs are not even on these [students’] radar…they need to get into these companies to see what they do.”
– Jack Pfunder, President and CEO of the Manufacturers Resource Center
ProtoCAM teamed up with Northern Lehigh Middle School to create a video for Dream It. Do It. PA’s 2017 student video contest, “What’s So Cool About Manufacturing?” Local manufacturers work together with middle school teams from Lehigh, Northampton, Carbon, Monroe, and Bucks counties to compete in the contest. ProtoCAM worked with students from Northern Lehigh to create a video demonstrating the latest technologies and innovations at ProtoCAM. The goal of the video contest is to “generate excitement about manufacturing careers by giving students direct access to local manufacturers to find out why they love their jobs.”
This is the fourth iteration of the popular event, and ProtoCAM’s second year participating. 31 schools and manufacturers participated for 2017 in the Lehigh Valley contest, while a total of 130 schools and manufacturers participated in all contests held through the state. Videos were created earlier this year, and almost 110,000 votes rolled in from February 22nd though the 24th at dreamitdoitpa.com for the coveted Viewers’ Choice award.
At an awards event held at ArtsQuest in Bethlehem, PA, all of the videos and participants were showcased. Awards in various categories were presented, including Outstanding Videography, Outstanding Team Spirit, and Outstanding Cool. ProtoCAM and Northern Lehigh were thrilled to win an award for Outstanding Educational Value; last year, ProtoCAM worked with Parkland School District and won for Outstanding Team Spirit.
We would like to thank everyone who voted for ProtoCAM and Northern Lehigh, and to recognize all the students and companies who contribute their ideas and innovations to this contest each year. ProtoCAM looks forward to participating again next year!
